Bulls Abroad: Derrick Etienne expected to start for Haiti against Suriname

It's an important game for Haiti, and Etienne looks set for a starting role.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

In an interview posted on the official Facebook page of the Haitian Football Federation, Haiti men's national team head coach Jean Claude Josaphat generously revealed his intended starting lineup for Les Grenadiers' CFU Gold Cup playoff opener against Suriname (technically, it's the playoff series to decide fifth place in Caribbean Cup, but a shot at Gold Cup qualification is why any teams bothered to show up for the mini-tournament at all).

Per Once A Metro's (rusty, suspect) French, Josaphat said Derrick Etienne will get the start on the right hand side of a three-man front line.

Etienne scored in both Haiti's warm-up games for the Gold Cup playoff series in Trinidad. It would seem the New York Red Bulls' homegrown prospect has won his coach's confidence along the way.

Haiti must beat Suriname in order to keep Gold Cup qualifying hopes alive. The match will be played at 6:00 pm, Eastern in Couva, Trinidad. And you might find a live stream (courtesy of Suriname's ATV Networks) here.
