New York Red Bulls II will get started on the 2017 USL season on March 25, so it is about time the team started to confirm its roster for the year ahead. The first step in that direction is the formal announcement of the signing of Ethan Kutler, the 39th overall pick of the 2017 SuperDraft and a player who has spent much of the RBNY and NYRB II preseasons with the club.
A forward during his college career at Colgate, Kutler is thought to have potential as a right back for RBNY. He was played almost exclusively at the position by the Red Bulls in preseason, and NYRB II head coach John Wolyniec's comments for the official release on Kutler's signing make clear the experiment is set to continue during the USL season:
Ethan has been with us during preseason since the draft, and he’s done really well transitioning to a new position. We have a lot of hope and confidence that he’s going to continue to develop and take those next steps that he wishes to take.
NYRB II's 207 roster is expected to include several players already signed to MLS contracts with RBNY and a rotating cast of Academy prospects, but a core of pros dedicated to the second team is necessary to get through the year ahead. Kutler will not be the last player signed to the II team this season.
