Salzburg qualified for the 2016-17 UEFA Youth League final - or the UEFA U-19 Champions League, if you will - for the first time with a 2-1 win over Barcelona.
Benfica booked its place in the final thanks to three goals in the opening 20 minutes of its semifinal against Real Madrid. The 3-0 lead was trimmed to 3-2 before the 60th minute, but Real could not find an equalizer and Benfica added a fourth in injury time.
This will be Benfica's second UEFA Youth League final: the Portuguese club lost to Barcelona in the tournament's inaugural final in 2014.
The Salzburg-Benfica match-up guarantees the tournament will have a new champion. This is only the fourth edition of the competition. After Barcelona's victory in the first-ever final, Chelsea won the last two editions.
For New York Red Bulls fans, this game offers a peek at Salzburg's U-19 team, which is mostly made up of players who get regular time with the club's reserve team, FC Liefering. The Salzburg academy outfit plays in a manner familiar to RBNY fans: it's a RalfBall team, just like the Red Bulls of New York.
