Anatole Abang subs in to SJK's 3-1 win over VPS

Abang's new club, SJK, has its first win of the new season in Finland's top flight.

After a somewhat disappointing, 1-1, home-opening draw on April 5 with Lahti, SJK hit the road for its second game of the 2017 Veikkausliiga - against VPS.

As in SJK's opening match of the season, recently-acquired forward Anatole Abang was in the squad, but on the bench.

Billy Ions opened the scoring for SJK in the 9th minute.

VPS equalized to send the teams in level at half-time.

But Ions' second of the match (and third of the season) put SJK back in front in the 47th minute.

And Facundo Guichon provided the insurance goal for SJK 10 minutes later.

By the time Abang subbed into the match for Aristote Mboma in the 66th minute, SJK was two goals up and perhaps focused more on holding the lead than extending it.

The match finished 3-1 to the visitors.

Though yet to score, Abang has at least made it off the bench in both SJK's league games to date, about halfway through the second half on each occasion. He is getting a chance to show what he can do for the team and to acclimatize to his new surroundings, which seems about as much as it is fair to expect of his new club at this point in time. Abang is on loan from New York Red Bulls to SJK until July 15, with the club holding an option to extend the loan to the end of the 2018 season in Finland.

SJK's next outing will be a home game against Ilves on April 15.
