Shaun Wright-Phillips scored his first goal for Phoenix Rising FC

And he gave Kevin Keegan the credit for it.

Backed by Diplo and Didier Drogba, Phoenix Rising FC has proved better at winning headlines than soccer matches this season, but the ambitious USL club picked up its third win of its 2017 league campaign thanks to one of its better-known players.

Shaun Wright-Phillips scored his first-ever goal for Phoenix Rising in stoppage time against Oklahoma EnergY FC to break a 1-1 tie and deliver all three points to his team.

Per Phoenix Rising's official match report, SWP credited England soccer legend Kevin Keegan (who coached Wright-Phillips at Manchester City) for the goal:

Since I was a kid, Kevin Keegan…always said to me shoot across the face of the goal because if the keeper saves it he parries it into someone’s path so when I’m when that side I always go back across.

The former Chelsea, Manchester City, Queens Park Rangers, and England player joined Phoenix Rising this year after two seasons alongside his brother Bradley at the New York Red Bulls. SWP has played every minute of every league game Phoenix has played to date this year.
