The battle for the top spot in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) standings takes place Wednesday night in Cary, North Carolina, as second-place Sky Blue FC (3-2-1, 10 points) hits the road again to take on the first-place North Carolina Courage (4-2-0, 12 points) for the first time this season. Kickoff for the match is set at 7:30 p.m. ET and fans can watch the action live on NWSLsoccer.com and Go90.com.

Sky Blue FC enters the match on a two-game win streak, with both victories against the Houston Dash after a home-and-home series. On May 20, the New Jersey side defeated the Dash 2-1 off a last minute finish from midfielder Raquel Rodriguez to remained undefeated at Yurcak Field.

Midfielder Sarah Killion converted a penalty kick in the 20th minute to take the early 1-0 lead for Sky Blue FC, but Houston’s Andressinha equalized in the 40th minute to make the score 1-1 at halftime. Rodriguez found the back of the net in the 84th minute off a free kick by midfielder Daphne Corboz to secure the club’s third win of the season.

North Carolina is looking to find its winning ways tonight after dropping two straight. The Courage won its first four games of the season and outscored opponents 6-1 during that stretch.

In the club’s most recent outing, the Courage lost 3-1 against the Chicago Red Stars. Forward Lynn Williams recorded her second goal of the season in the 55th minute, but by that point, the team was already facing a three-goal deficit.

The Wednesday match-up will be the first meeting between the two teams since the Western New York Flash relocated to North Carolina this past offseason. It will also mark the first mid-week game of the 2017 season.
