A win or a tie sees Uruguay win Group D, and most would expect Uruguay to win this game. It has battled through a couple of tough games without conceding a goal and clearly capable of creating chances for itself. Meanwhile, South Africa has given the impression of not quite being able to keep up with the other teams in what is arguably the toughest group at this U-20 World Cup.
But the game must be played. Uruguay is already guaranteed a place in the knockout rounds. South Africa needs a win (and some other results to go its way) to have any chance at all of making the round of 16. A combination of Uruguayan complacency and South African focus could arguably tilt the game the way of the underdog.
But Uruguay is the heavy favorite in this match, and it will take a level of play South Africa has yet to show to confound expectations of this game.
