How to watch Honduras vs Vietnam in 2017 Men's U-20 World Cup, Group E: start time, TV schedule, and live stream

Both teams need a win from this game to have any hope of moving forward to the knockout rounds.

This is most likely a playoff for third place in Group E.

Vietnam needs to score a lot of goals (or New Zealand needs to concede a lot) to get to second place in the group - and this is because it hasn't scored any goals yet in the 2017 U-20 World Cup and therefore has a rather poor goal difference. That lack of goals is why a big win for Vietnam seems improbable. No suggestion Vietnam can't beat Honduras, but it hasn't shown much evidence of having the firepower in attack to beat Honduras by a lot. But three points would be enough to put Vietnam into contention for one of the four qualifying places in the knockout rounds for third-placed teams from the group stage.

Honduras has a tougher task. The best it can hope for is to beat Vietnam and get to three points and third place in the group. For three points to stand up as a points total that would qualify a third-placed team for the knockout rounds, the USA must beat Saudi Arabia and Ecuador must not beat Senegal in Group F. Two distinct possibilities, but those results plus a Honduras win would leave three third-placed teams with three points from the group stage. And there would only be room for one of them in the knockout rounds, since only four third-placed teams advance to the round of 16 and there are already three teams that have four points and third-place finish in the group stage.

The three tied teams would be Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Honduras. Goal difference and goals scored would be the primary tiebreakers, and Honduras has scored just once so far and has a -5 goal difference. To edge past Argentina (six goals scored and a +1 goal difference), Los Catrachos would need to beat Vietnam by six goals.

A six-goal win for Honduras seems very unlikely indeed. So this is probably the last chance to see New York Red Bulls II forward Douglas Martinez at this tournament.

Current standings in Group E:

Position Team Played Won Drawn Lost Goals For Goals Against Goal Difference Points
1 France 2 2 0 0 7 0 +7 6
2 New Zealand 2 1 1 0 3 1 +2 4
3 Vietnam 2 0 1 1 0 4 -4 1
4 Honduras 2 0 0 2 1 6 -5 0
