A special show for New York Red Bulls fans looking at the team’s 2-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City in mid-week. The “makeshift” lineup, the goals the Red Bulls nearly got, the ones they definitely conceded: all here as we unpack Jesse Marsch’s decision to give a lot of senior players a breather.
For me, the decision to play Sal Zizzo at center-back was a head-scratcher, but the basic plan made a lot of sense. The every-day starters need a rest some time, and a mid-week road game against an out-of-Conference opponent is maybe as a good a time as any.
Of course, if the team isn’t up for the next game, against Philadelphia Union, there will be more questions about Marsch’s plan for KC - so there’s a little pressure on the coach and the squad to justify the choices made on Wednesday with a good performance on Saturday.
Join me for a look back and look forward at the New York Red Bulls on this episode of Feuerstein’s Fire.
