During the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, RBNY defenders Michael Amir Murillo and Fidel Escobar paired nicely on the back line for Panama as they made it to the tournament quarter-finals. In September the defensive duo will head home once again to represent their nation in the upcoming World Cup Qualifying matches.
On Friday, MLSSoccer.com released a list of MLS players who had been called up for Panama for the September qualifiers - a list that included Murillo and Escobar.
Panama is scheduled to play at Mexico on September 1st, then host Trinidad & Tobago on September 5th.
The call-ups all but ensure that neither Murillo nor Escobar will be available for the Red Bulls in a September 2nd match against FC Dallas. However, they should both be back before the September 9th match at the Chicago Fire.
Murillo has proven to be the right man for the job at right-back, with his recent form exceeding expectations. Escobar, on the other hand, has yet to debut for the Red Bulls senior team and so far has only made cameos with NYRB II.
