The Women’s U-17 World Cup will feature a team from CONCACAF for the first time since its inaugural edition in 2008. Ten years ago, the USA made the first-ever Women’s U-17 World Cup final, losing 2-0 to North Korea (North Korea is the dominant force at the U-17 level of international women’s soccer: two titles, one runner-up finish, and one fourth-place from the five U-17 World Cups preceding this one).

Canada and Mexico have made it to the semifinal stage of the 2018 edition - one of them will be in the final.

Mexico beat Canada in the semifinals of the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship, going on to lose to the USA in the final. So this game is an opportunity for Canada to claim its revenge for that loss, or for Mexico to reassert its superiority in this match-up.
