Honduras got its first significant test of this tournament in the last round of Group C matches. Cuba scored first and, though Honduras equalized quickly, there were chances at both ends for much of the game - until Carlos Mejia put Los Catrachos ahead decisively in the 84th minute.
The 3-1 win over Cuba preserved Honduras’ perfect record in the 2018 CONCACAF Men’s U-20 Championship, but also raised some questions about how well the presumptive Group C winner might fare in the latter rounds of the competition against stronger opposition. Honduras will seek to quieten those questions with a strong performance today.
For Belize, the tournament so far has been a story of steadily improving performances: a 6-1 loss to Cuba was followed by a 1-0 loss to Antigua and Barbuda, and the team beat Sint Maarten, 4-2, in its last game. But Sint Maarten looks a lot like the weakest team in Group C, and Honduras is justly regarded as the strongest. Anything less severe than a multi-goal loss to Los Catrachos will be a victory of sorts for Belize.
