Tyler Adams finished second in the voting for the award, garnering a 38% share of votes cast. Steffen received 44% of the vote. The honor wraps up a special year for Steffen, who also won the 2018 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award for his work with Columbus Crew, and won the attention of Manchester City, for whom he has recently signed.

Former New York Red Bulls players Tyler Adams (now en route to RB Leipzig) and Matt Miazga (reportedly on his way out of a bad situation at Nantes) were nominated for this year’s US Soccer Male Player of the Year award. Both can reasonably hope to be nominated again in future.
Former LA Galaxy prospect Alex Mendez - on his way to Freiburg this winter - won US Soccer’s Young Male Player of the Year award.
