The 2019 South American men’s U-20 Championship will be held in Chile from January 17 to February 10. It will be the qualifying tournament for CONMEBOL teams for the 2019 FIFA Men’s U-20 World Cup and the 2019 Pan American Games men’s football tournament.
In preparation for the Championship, and with the intention of selecting the 23-man squad for the tournament, Venezuela’s men’s U-20 team has convened a training camp that will occupy 33 players for most of December.
New York Red Bulls midfielder Cristian Casseres is among those called to the camp. Players will gather from December 3, but the Venezuela Football Federation’s announcement specifically notes Casseres’ arrival is subject to the conclusion of his commitments to his club. RBNY’s hopes of ending 2018 with the MLS Cup Final were dashed on November 29, so Casseres has a little more time in December than his club would have preferred. He may yet be among the first group of players to join the Venezuela U-20s camp.
The three-phase camp runs from December 3 to December 30 with a break for Christmas. It is expected that Venezuela’s 23-man squad for the 2019 South American men’s U-20 Championship will be confirmed during this period.
