U.S. Soccer announced on Wednesday that two Sky Blue FC players, veteran midfielder Carli Lloyd and rookie Savannah McCaskill, have been named to the United States women’s national team (USWNT) roster for their pre-SheBelieves Cup camp.
Head coach Jill Ellis has named 26 players to her roster for the camp, which begins on February 19 in Orlando. However, she will only carry 23 players into the SheBelieves Cup, which kicks off on Thursday, March 1 in Columbus, Ohio.
The third annual SheBelieves Cup is a round-robin friendly tournament including four of the top FIFA-ranked teams in the world: the No. 1 USWNT, No. 2 Germany, No. 3 England and No. 6 France.
The U.S. opens the tournament on March 1 against Germany following the opening match between France and England. The tournament then moves to Red Bull Arena in Newark, New Jersey, where the USWNT will face 2017 SheBelieves Cup champions France on Sunday, March 4 before Germany and England face off. The USWNT will return to Orlando on Wednesday, March 7 to close out the tournament against England following a match between France and Germany.
Lloyd was recently added to the Sky Blue FC roster in a three-team trade that went down on January 18 during the 2018 NWSL College Draft.
McCaskill was taken as the No. 2 overall pick in the dispersal draft following the folding of the Boston Breakers. The 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy finalist was originally taken as the No. 2 overall draft pick by the Breakers during this year’s draft.
