While Thursday night for the New York Red Bulls ended in a rather “meh” fashion thanks to a 1-1 draw with CD Olimpia, the team’s European sister clubs ended the week on a high note, as both clubs knocked out their Europa League Round of 32 foes to advance to the Round of 16.
Red Bull Salzburg won 2-1 over La Liga’s Real Sociedad thanks to goals from Munas Dabbur and Valon Berisha. By advancing, Salzburg will appear in the Europa League Round of 16 for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
RB Leipzig got hammered at home, losing 2-0 to Serie A table-leaders SSC Napoli. However, the German squad still managed to win on away goals aggregate thanks to their 3-1 road win over Napoli the week before.
The Round of 16 will begin in two weeks - Leg 1 on March 8 and Leg 2 on March 15. On Friday, Leipzig was drawn against Russian powerhouse Zenit Saint Petersburg, while Salzburg were drawn against Borussia Dortmund with American megastar Christian Pulisic.
