Sky Blue FC defender Erin Simon was officially placed on the 45-day disabled list due to increasing discomfort in her left foot. Simon suffered an injury to the same foot last year that resulted in season-ending surgery.
The Oakhurst, New Jersey native is currently in her third season with Sky Blue FC after earning a contract with the club through the open tryout process in 2016. Last year, she missed the last 11 games of the 2017 campaign after suffering a left foot fracture on July 1st during a match against the North Carolina Courage. Prior to the injury, she appeared in seven matches.
In her rookie season, Simon earned 18 starts in 19 appearances and tallied two assists. Previously, she was a member of the Syracuse University women's soccer team. She was recruited as a forward, scoring nine goals and adding six assists during her first two seasons with the Orange. After one of her teammates on the back line suffered an injury, Simon converted to defense and finished her final two collegiate seasons at that position.
