While Kaku watch was thrilling to see during the pre-season last year, then this current pre-season the Red Bulls were looking to bring in someone on the attack. But this time around Sporting Director Denis Hamlet was able to wield his magic and got his transfer target to help the club.
The New York Red Bulls have transfered over and signed 18 year old Danish youth International striker from his club Odense Boldklub in Mathias Jorgensen. The Red Bulls used TAM Money and has given Jorgensen a multi-year contract, now they are waiting for his P-1 Visa and receipt of his ITC so they can add him to the roster.
“We are pleased to welcome Mathias to our club,” said Red Bulls Sporting DirectorDenis Hamlett. “He is a talented young player who fits into our philosophy and playing style.
“Throughout the scouting, interviewing, and signing process we became more and more confident in Mathias’ character, his team-first attitude, and his competitive drive. His decision to join our club as a young European player speaks volumes about the New York Red Bulls and Major League Soccer.”
Since he began with his side in Denmark, Jorgensen was apart of Odense Boldklub, is a strong player who loves to attack and score goals. The Hundested, Denmark native has played in 18 matches acreoss all competitions and tallied three goals in 572 minutes.
He played for the clubs youth sides appearing in 25 matches and scoring 28 times in 2,112 minutes. He had some solid conversions for the reserve side as he tallied nine times, which means if he is that talented, then the Red Bulls have scouted him very well.
“I’m so much looking forward to being a part of the New York Red Bulls,” said Jørgensen. “I will do whatever it takes to achieve success together with my new teammates.”
What are the qualities that Head Coach Chris Armas sees in Jorgensen? Well for one thing it might mean that he could be a striker partner with Bradley Wright-Phillips and while we all know that BWP can handle it all by himself, but I think it would be alright if he does get some help.
But once again, what does Armas like about this new signing. “We are really excited to have added Mathias to our team. He fits the profile of a Red Bull player and person that we look for,” said Red Bulls Head Coach Chris Armas. “As a striker, Mathias gives us another dynamic option up the field with his speed, clever movements, and willingness to run behind defenses. In addition to his talent though, we love his attitude, humbleness, and his desire to work for the team.”
This could be a solid striker pairing and at the same time, it looks like the Red Bulls are continuing going with youth, excitement and adding on to the players they bring up through their academy. Getting playing time in USL League 2 with their U-23 side, then the USL Championship side earning minutes to prepare them for the MLS level.
Congratulations to Mathai Jorgensen and hope he does fit very well with the Red Bulls in his American Adventure.
