As the Red Bulls have already started training camp for the upcoming 2020 season, the winter transfer window hasn’t been as active as some of the supporters have wanted it to be. But that has all changed as Sporting Director Denis Hamlet has pulled the trigger to bring in a new signing.
He has brought in Danish goalkeeper David Jensen who was playing for FC Utrecht of the Everdeersie in the Netherlands. He has compiled 200 matches with 145 of them with FC Utrecht and has earned 33 clean sheets in all competitions.
“David brings a wealth of professional experience to our club,” said Sporting Director Denis Hamlett. “When scouting David, we were impressed with him on and off the field, we know he is a solid goalkeeper and we think he’ll be great in our locker room too. We’ve got a strong group of goalkeepers to work together and push each other every day in training.”
The 27-year-old started his career back in March of 2009 as he began his career with FC Nordsjaelland in the Danish first division Superligaen, as he racked up 27 clean sheets in 85 matches before transferring to the Dutch League
“In speaking with David, I’m confident he’ll be a great fit for our team,” said head coach Chris Armas. “He is a veteran guy who knows what it takes to win. He brings a different type of experience to our group, having played at a high level in different parts of Europe. We look forward to getting David integrated into our team in the coming weeks.”
While Jensen will occupy an international spot, the spotlight has just started shinning on the nets at Red Bull Arena, as there will be competition for the starting goalkeeper spot with Ryan Meara.
As someone like myself is excited to see Meara finally getting a chance to start, now he has to have a bit of a competition in camp to keep that job. While Jensen is two years younger than Meara, we shall see if both men will be pitting themselves to see who will get the starting job.
Training camp just got a bit more interesting, as we might have thought it was going to have a ho-hum pre-season. The spotlight is on the keepers, but we shall see who can brave being under it better.
