In what would be the most consequential front office shakeup since the removal of Ali Curtis in 2017, ESPN is reporting the Red Bulls have hired longtime Wolverhampton Wanderers technical director Kevin Thelwell to serve in a new role entitled as the club’s Head Of Sport.

Thelwell, a UEFA pro-credentialed coach who has worked with Wolverhampton’s academy since 2008 after a long career in the ranks of the highly-regarded coaching system of the Welsh FA, will oversee both Head Coach Chris Armas and sporting director Denis Hamlett.

Thelwell has played a pivotal role in Wolves’ transition from second tier furniture to ascendant European power under the oversight of Portuguese superagent Jorge Mendes. Under Thelwell’s administration several Wolves players such as Kevin Doyle and Jack Price have moved to MLS after being deemed surplus to requirements of the new-look squad, and now Thelwell himself appears to have been tapped up by a league entity.

According to the ESPN report the hire will be announced in a press conference Tuesday. OaM will have more on this story as it develops.
