Since the COVID-19 Pandemic has suspended the 2020 MLS season, many right now don’t know when the league will return to perform across the United States and Canada.
While our medical workers are on the frontlines trying to get a handle on this pandemic, the league has decided to team up with Fox Sports to broadcast an eMLS tournament by using each club’s eMLS gamer along with one of the players currently on the roster.
Center back Aaron Long will team up with the clubs eMLS gamer George Adamou to represent the Red Bulls as they will face other teams from within the league. Their first opponents in this tournament will be NYCFC’s Sean Johnson and the club’s eMLS gamer Chris Holly on Sunday, May 3rd.
The tournament will begin on Sunday, April 19th as Stu Holden, Rachel Bonnetta and Rodolfo Landeros and eMLS analyst Mike LaBelle, will be handling the commentary on Fox Sports 1.
”The eMLS tournament Tournament special represents the spirit of MLS United by entertaining fans and giving back to our communities,” said Camilo Durana, MLS Senior Vice President of Properties and Events. “We’re thrilled many of the league’s top players are joining our MLS participants to compete and also provide benefit for those on the front lines.
”We are also thankful to FOX Sports and all of our partners for their collaboration on the innovative series that will be both fun to watch and make a difference.”
Everyone will be using EA Sports FIFA 20 and they will be using a PlayStation to have these games being played, as well as broadcasting every Sunday at 7PM EDT on Fox Sports 1.
Once this event is over, MLS and Fox Sports will donate on behalf of the winning club to the charity Feeding America, with the league giving support to Food Banks Canada as well.
Let’s hope everyone will enjoy these special video game nights on Fox Sports 1, as well as having some fun to get a break during these tough times. I will take a look to see how Aaron Long will work well with his eMLS partner during these series.
