New York Red Bulls II were defeated 3-1 by Atlanta United 2 in their first road game of the year on Saturday.

Manager John Woylniec made three changes to the team that defeated Toronto FC II last weekend. Evan Louro started in goal once again. There was one change to the back three as Kevin Politz replaced Hassan Ndam, with Jordan Scarlett and Tommy Redding partnering him. The midfield remained the same as last game as Niko De Vera, Ethan Kutler, Steven Echevarria and Andrew Tinari started. Brian White got the start up top once again, with Jared Stroud and Amando Moreno flanking him. It was Stroud and Moreno’s first starts for NYRB II as they replaced Florian Valot and Ben Mines who were called up to the first team.

Due to technical difficulties, most of the game wasn’t streamed, but NYRB II found themselves down early as they failed to clear and Yosef Samuel’s half volley beat Louro to give Atlanta United 2 the lead.

NYRB II would equalize in the 32nd minute as White grabbed his first of the year with a diving header to even the score at 1.

The score would only be deadlocked for four minutes before Scarlett took down John Gallagher in the box and the midfielder put away the penalty to make it 2-1 Atlanta United 2.

NYRB II tried to carve out something in the second half, but found themselves down two goals just five minutes in as Gallagher nodded home his second to put Atlanta United 2 up 3-1.

NYRB II were unable to mount a comeback in the second half and dropped their first road game of the year.

Wolyniec’s men will look to get back on track in their next game when they return to Red Bull Arena to take Charleston Battery. The game will take place on Saturday March 31, at 1:00 pm.
