New York Red Bulls vs. Toronto FC: Live Match Thread

The New York Red Bulls return home tonight for their first league match at Red Bull Arena since June 10th as they take on Toronto FC. New York has taken just one win from their last 11 MLS games, but can leapfrog the Philadelphia Union into first place in the Eastern Conference with three points this evening.

Thierry Henry and Luke Rodgers are both expected to return for the Red Bulls, who are getting closer to finally having a fully first-choice starting Xi for the first time in over a month. Tony Tchani and Danleigh Borman, who were shipped off to Toronto as part of the first Dwayne De Rosario trade, could make their returns to Red Bull Arena for the Canadian side.

You can find TFC perspective at Waking The Red. Also be sure to check out our match preview and our question swap with Waking the Red.

Kickoff is at 8 PM, and you can watch the game on MSG+ if you're not heading out to Red Bull Arena. Our writing crew will be at the Cathedral of Football, so one of you fine commenters will have to post the lineups in the comments section.

Hoooolllllyyyyy

Shit. That was attacking soccer at it’s best. What beautiful touch passing between McCarty and Solli, and then a class finish by Rodgers. Just a superb play all around.

Wow

I don’t know about that. It looked like Frei made a lot out of some minimal contact. Great last 15 minutes though, we should utterly dominate this team going away.

Ugh

great build-up but gawd that was terrible defense. I almost feel bad for TFC, but they have Torsten Frings coming. So I don’t feel bad anymore.

Silly time for Taino to pick up a yellow.

Up 3-0?

That was fucking stupid by Teemu

we’re up 3-0 and the game against DC is 1000 times more important than this one. He just cannot get a cheap yellow for bitching there. Terrible decision by him.

Kinda thing you'd expect from a 1st or 2nd yr guy.

He should know better

Agguuuudelllooooo

And this game is perfect now. He desperately needed a goal to get some confidence back and get on track. Absolutely beautiful. Great night tonight.

Give someone who will be playing on saturday a rest.

Almost perfect game

Tainio’s stupid yellow is the only fly in this ointment. It’s almost balanced by listening to this interview with Joel, I didn’t realize he was really Checkov from Star Trek.

I was at the game in 133

Basic review: Can we play you (TFC) every week?

More serious: TFC did come close to scoring early in the game on a couple of chances. They certainly rued them as RBNY got their attack going after 10 minutes and TFC just broke down again and again.

Seeing the good guys actually finish (especially Rodgers’ goalazo!) was not only wonderful to see but great for confidence. They made their chances count and after such a long stretch of D’s in the standings, the players have to feel fantastic. Which will be great going into Smash DC In The Face Night on Saturday.

Question: Was Lindpere’s FK goal in the first half taken away because it was an indirect FK? If not, then why?

more or less, the ref called goalie interference

rodgers was practically on top of him, collided with him before the ball got close. probably the right call.
