Sky Blue FC Continues Win Streak, Defeats FCKC 1-0

Sky Blue FC took their fourth straight victory saturday night in Overland Park, Kansas against FC Kansas City. FCKC held nice possession early and created a couple chances through the Cheyney-Cuellar duo. Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Brittany Cameron came up big in the 14th minute, punching a Cuellar blast from thirty yards out over the bar.

US international Kelly O'Hara fell to the turf after challenging for a 50/50 ball in the midfield. Team trainers called it a ankle sprain and her return is uncertain. Super-Sub Taylor Lytle subbed in for O'Hara in the 23'.

Moments after the injury, a through ball sent Lisa De Vanna in on goal. Becky Sauerbrunn broke up the attack on goal, but was unable to clear from Lisa De Vanna. Sunsequently, De Vanna was tugged down by FCKC Defender Lauren Sesselmann. Sky Blue were awarded a pk and sesselmann qas sent off forcing FCKC to play the rest of the match with 10. Sophie Schmidt converted in the 22' to give Sky Blue the 1-0.

SBFC Left Back Caitlin Foord started off the second half breaking through the defense, but had her shot stopped by FCKC goalkeeper Nicole Barnhardt. SBFC held took advantage of being a man up, creating multiple chances and holding most of the possession.

FCKC put pressure on Sky Blue FC late. Renae Cuellar sailed a volley from point blank range over the bar and forced Cameron to make a key save in stoppage to preserve the three points.

PLayer of the match honors go to Brittany Cameron, who made key saves to get her 4th straight shutout and 5th of the seaon. After the allocation and drafts, Sky Blue FC didn't look like a playoff team in many fans minds, but are now sitting at the top of the table looking like a championship contender. With the road trip over, Sky Blue is home for four of their next five starting next saturday against the Boston Breakers.
