The New York Red Bulls have made very few moves in the offseason, but they did trade their center back, Jamison Olave to Real Salt Lake in exchange for allocation money. The move creates a void in the middle of their defensive backline heading into 2015.
Boyd Okwuonu is a defender from North Carolina, certainly a very good college program, he can play at the right back spot which is not as big a need area for the Red Bulls with their young defensive prospects who can play on the outside of the defensive line.
The issue surrounding Okwuonu and playing in the center of the defense is his size, he is 5' 8'' tall and just 175 pounds. He will have to bulk up to be able to play against the bigger forwards in MLS.
We should find out soon.
