From an eagle-eyed friend of Once A Metro, a glimpse of Douglas Martinez watching the New York Red Bulls play D.C. United at Red Bull Arena on April 15, 2017.
We already know Martinez was at the stadium for the game, thanks to another eagle-eyed friend of OaM. And there can be some confidence that the Honduras youth international (expected to feature for the Men's U-20 team at next month's U-20 World Cup) will shortly be announced as a signing for...well, the smart money is on him playing for NYRB II this year.
But this snippet of video serves to remind that the club has a short but rather wonderful history with Honduran players. Or rather with one Honduran player: per MetroFanatic.com, Amado Guevara is the only Honduran ever to have played for RBNY. Per the sign with his name on it at Red Bull Arena, Amado Guevara is an all-time club great (also an all-time great of Honduran soccer).
No pressure, Douglas. Just be the best Douglas Martinez that has ever played for RBNY, and maybe there will be a time when a young player at the Arena is watching the game from a box bordered by a sign with your name on it.
