The New York Red Bulls U-23 team will get started on Saturday, May 20, at the Red Bulls Training Facility against Reading United.
In advance of its season, a partial roster of 13 players was revealed at the beginning of May. PDL has since published a fuller squad listing for the RBNY U-23s. There are 11 names added to the original list of 13 - here is a glance at the players rounding out the roster for the Red Bulls' 2017 PDL campaign:
Anderson Asiedu: Midfielder who completed his second season with Monmouth University Hawks last year, and is back for his second summer with RBNY U-23s in PDL.
Marcello Borges: Highly-rated Homegrown prospect for RBNY. Traditionally regarded as a full-back, Borges took time off from his studies at Michigan to prepare for a busy 2017 with the USA U-20s. But he lost his regular place in the U-20 squad to injury, missed out on the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, and was not selected for the U-20 World Cup in Korea. Has been training with RBNY, but his presence on the U-23 roster suggests he is retaining his NCAA eligibility, at least for now.
Fabio De Sousa: Scored 14 goals and chipped in eight assists in 24 appearances in his freshman season with Rutgers-Newark.
Taner Dogan: Midfielder coming off his freshman season at Harvard; developed at the St. Louis Scott Gallagher Academy (the same academy that produced current USA Men's U-17 captain Josh Sargent).
Steven Echevarria: RBNY Academy graduate currently at Wake Forest, where he plays alongside fellow Academy alum and RBNY U-23s player, Kevin Politz.
Jared Gilbey: RBNY Academy graduate; the midfielder capped his freshman year at Stanford with the 2016 College Cup.
Christopher Lema: part of the RBNY Academy South contingent on this year's U-23 squad - aka, the group of Academy grads now clustered at Georgetown. The midfielder has been named one of the Hoyas' captains for the 2017 season.
Collyns Laokandi: a senior at St. Francis College - the same soccer program from which RBNY scooped up Vincent Bezecourt. Like Bezecourt, Laokandi is French. Unlike Bezecourt, he is a defender.
Henry Martin: RBNY Academy grad now playing at Princeton; center back with NYRB II and USA U-20 appearances to his name.
Alexander Tejera: RBNY Academy grad who has tallied 16 goals and 10 assists in 54 appearances for Siena.
Sean Teixeira: Red Bulls Academy grad with II team experience and US youth national team looks in his past; currently at Villanova.
These names boost the RBNY U-23 squad for PDL 2017 to 24 players. It would be no great surprise to see a few more additions - and possibly some subtractions - over the course of the summer. But the team's season starts on May 20, and 24 players is ample to start the PDL campaign, and even finish it.
