Match 10 of the 2017 MLS regular season sees the New York Red Bulls in Kansas City for a clash of the two second-placed teams in their respective conferences. In the East, RBNY has risen to second on the back of a three-game winning streak. All those wins came at home, however, and the Red Bulls' last three road games saw the them take three losses.
Sporting Kansas City isn't necessarily the team RBNY would choose to play to try to break out of its away-day slump, but it is the one it must confront on May 3. KC has conceded just three goals in its opening eight games of the 2017 season, posting five shutouts in an early-season run that currently includes just one loss - and that was away to Dallas.
This will be a tough game for the Red Bulls, but they too are in good form, after recently reverting to a tactical plan that better resembles the one that took them to the Eastern Conference title in 2016 and the Supporters' Shield in 2015.
Neither side's season will be made or broken by the result of this match, but they would both like to see each other again in MLS Cup at the end of the year, and this game will be used as a (somewhat premature) evaluation of their respective chances of achieving that goal.
