The 2019 South America Men’s U-20 Championship will be held in Chile in January. The tournament will determine CONMEBOL’s four representatives at the 2019 U-20 World Cup.

New York Red Bulls midfielder Cristian Casseres will hope to be in Chile with his national U-20 squad this winter. He’ll get another chance to demonstrate his worth to the Venezuela U-20 cause this month: Casseres has been called to a 23-man squad selected to play a mini-tournament against a few of Venezuela’s CONMEBOL rivals for a U-20 World Cup berth.

Casseres has spent most of his first season with RBNY playing in USL with the II team. But clearly his national team program hasn’t lost sight of him.

Venezuela will host the tournament in Cabudare. Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru will participate. Per Meridiano, Venezuela will play Bolivia on November 14, Ecuador on November 16, and Peru on November 18.

The draw for the 2019 South American Men’s U-20 Championship has already been made, and Venezuela has been drawn into a tough group that comprises home team Chile, Brazil, Colombia, and Bolivia. The November 14 scrimmage with Bolivia therefore looks an important opportunity for Venezuela to measure itself against an opponent it knows it will need to beat in the near future.
