Canada and Martinique will have entered the 2018 CONCACAF U-20 Championship with different expectations, but both teams will kick-off this game likely feeling a little disappointed with the way the tournament has unfolded for them to date.
In the last round of games, Martinique lost to regional rival Guadeloupe, and Canada surprisingly handed St Kitts and Nevis its first victory of the competition.
Both teams had encouraging starts to the tournament: Martinique beat St Kitts and Nevis; Canada beat Dominica. Both have since slumped: Martinique has lost three straight games; Canada has lost its last two.
For Canada the primary disappointment will be losing to Panama and effectively losing out on any realistic shot at qualifying for the next round of this championship. For Martinique, the disappointment is mostly the fact it is the bottom team in Group D at present.
Canada is the favorite to win this game, but it was also expected to beat St Kitts and Nevis - and that didn’t work out as expected. Martinique will hope it can provide a similar surprise.
