Stage 2 of the 2018 MLS Re-Entry Draft is here

Blink and you’ll miss it.

The New York Red Bulls passed on Stage 1 of the 2018 MLS Re-Entry Draft, because that is the Red Bulls’ way. They may choose to pass on Stage 2 also: we will find out today at 2:00 pm, Eastern.

Three players were selected in Stage 1: Nick DeLeon, Donny Toia, and Andre Rawls. Many are still available, including former Red Bulls Mike Grella and the more recently released Carlos Rivas.

The Red Bulls selected Marcus Epps in the 2018 MLS Waiver Draft, and the terms of Stage 2 of the Re-Entry Draft are a little closer to those of the Waiver Draft than Stage 1: just pick a player and extend a “genuine offer”. So perhaps RBNY Sporting Director Denis Hamlett is inclined to add to his roster before Christmas. Or perhaps not.

The Red Bulls have the 21st pick in today’s draft. Whatever happens, expect it to happen relatively quickly - most teams will likely pass and any selections will be reported shortly after the 2:00 pm conference call is concluded.
