In keeping with the club’s longstanding traditions and beliefs, the New York Red Bulls passed on Stage 2 of the 2018 MLS Re-Entry Draft. So too did 21 other teams.
Two stood apart from the crowd and made a selection. Each picking a player who recalls a fond memory for RBNY.
Houston Dynamo selected Tommy McNamara, formerly of NYCFC and an eyewitness to the most blessed and celebrated Red Wedding at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, May 21, 2016.
LA Galaxy selected Matt Lampson, most recently attached to Minnesota United, but in goal for Columbus Crew on the occasion of Thierry Henry’s magnificent Olimpico at Red Bull Arena on September 15, 2012.
In these moments, when the soccer gods smile on RBNY, we are reminded of the importance of routine, tradition, and faith. Routine becomes tradition over time, guided by the faith that in honoring these rituals, we honor the past and channel the joy and successes of days gone by toward that which is yet to come.
The Re-Entry Draft has been passed for another year. We trust the soccer gods are appeased and will find ways to indulge RBNY in the season ahead.
