Moses Basena and Fred Kajoba were coaching the Uganda men’s national team in World Cup qualifying last summer, but that appointment was on an interim basis and the Federation of Ugandan Football Associations (FUFA) hired Sebastien Desabre as the national team head coach in December.

Interim appointments aside, there hasn’t been a Ugandan in charge of the Uganda Cranes for more than a decade, but Basena made the shortlist for the full-time job last year and perhaps he or Kajoba will be among the candidates whenever Desabre’s tenure comes to an end. Until then, they continue to work and seek out new experiences.

Per KweseESPN, one of those experiences will be a month with the New York Red Bulls. Basena and Kajoba are expected to land in the USA on March 10 for a “learning exchange” at RBNY.

Current RBNY head coach Jesse Marsch seems to welcome the opportunity to share ideas and show off his team’s methods, and it is not at all uncommon for coaches to visit the Red Bulls training facility. Basena and Kajoba are also familiar with at least one member of the current Red Bulls technical staff: NYRB II assistant coach Ibrahim Sekagya is among Ugandan football’s all-time greats, and he remains close to his national team. Last summer, Basena and Kajoba brought Sekagya into the Cranes’ coaching set-up. Now they will get to see how their colleague and countryman approaches his day job.
