Sky Blue FC forward Katie Johnson has been voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association for Week 21 of the 2018 season.

Johnson led the Sky Blue FC attack on Saturday evening against Utah Royals FC, scoring a brace in the eventual 2-2 draw at home. Her second tally of the match was just seconds away from being the game-winner, but an Amy Rodriguez goal in the 4th minute of second-half stoppage time led to the 2-2 final result.

The Monrovia, Calif. native recorded her second brace of the 2018 campaign, and both were in front of a home crowd at Yurcak Field. Johnson currently leads the Jersey club in scoring with four goals, and she also has two assists.

The NWSL Player of the Week acknowledgement for Johnson is the first of her career, as well as the first for a Sky Blue FC player this season. The award is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.

The New Jersey club is currently on the road for a four-game stretch that gets underway on Wednesday night against Portland Thorns FC at Providence Park. Johnson and the rest of the Sky Blue FC crew are still in search of its first win of the season.

Sky Blue FC returns home to Yurcak Field for its 2018 season finale on Saturday, September 8, hosting the Orlando Pride for a noon kickoff.
