Through a series of announcements on Thursday, it was announced that Janine Beckie was officially leaving Sky Blue FC and had signed with Manchester City in the FA Women’s Super League (FA WSL).

The signing comes just days after The Equalizer broke news that Beckie had not traveled with Sky Blue for their road match against the Orlando Pride, a 2-2 draw, and that she had likely already played her last match for the New Jersey side.

“Personally, I have enjoyed my time here and am very thankful for this group of people,” Beckie said of Sky Blue in a statement posted to social media.

“Now I believe that the time has come to embark on a new journey in my life and to join a league I have always dreamt of playing in, will allow me to continue my growth as a player. That is why I have asked the club to accept a transfer for me, which they did knowing this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Beckie arrived at Sky Blue via the blockbuster draft-day trade that also brought Carli Lloyd and Jen Hoy to the team while sending Sam Kerr and Nikki Stanton to the Chicago Red Stars. Christen Press was also sent to the Houston Dash in the trade.

For Sky Blue the Canadian federation player has made 11 starts in 15 appearances for a total of 1,046 minutes. Prior to her stint in New Jersey, Beckie spent the first two seasons of her professional career with the Houston Dash.
