In a rare flash of club news in the downtime between the conclusion of the NWSL Challenge Cup and the start of the proposed set of intraleague friendlies that may occur this fall, Sky Blue FC announced the signing of midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe to a multi-year contract.

Cudjoe, who inked a short-term deal with the team shortly before the Challenge Cup in June after impressing coaches at an open tryout, enjoyed a breakout spell during the tournament, emerging as an energetic and technical presence in the center of the park for Sky Blue. The Ghanaian quickly established herself as a trusted partner to club captain Sarah Woldmoe and veteran McCall Zerboni in Coach Freya Coombe’s preferred midfield trio. The 26-year-old saw time in every game Sky Blue played during the tournmanet, starting in four matches (including both elimination contests.)
A veteran of Ghana’s youth setup, and a capped member of the Black Queens full national side, Cudjoe played her college ball at Northeastern State University, where she would become the NJCAA’s player of the year in 2014. She would then go on to excel in the WPSL, as a 3 time All Star and member of Asheville City SC, before making her debut in the top level of American women’s soccer with Sky Blue. Her ability to break up play as well as carry the ball forward gives her one of the most unique skill sets in the league, and securing her signing ensures that Sky Blue will be a tough matchup in the midfield for years to come.
