Earlier today, the Red Bulls picked up Bill Gaudette from the LA Galaxy, which touched off speculation that rookie of the year favorite Ryan Meara was injured.
At roughly the same time, it was reported injured Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Michael Gspurning would travel with the team to New York, despite the fact that he hasn't played in 15 games.
He told fellow SBNation blog, Sounder at Heart...
"I feel healthy otherwise I wouldn't train with the team," Gspurning said following Thursday's session. "I trust the body, I trust the hip. This is very important. Now it's just to get as many practices at possible to get the feeling for games. I feel ready."
It remains to be seen if Gspurning will play, and it sounds like he thinks he can, just like it remains to be seen if Meara is hurt -- for what it's worth, Meara isn't listed on the injury report. But if they, Gspurning and Meara, play Sunday it could be a match-up of hobbled keepers. Or Sunday could see the Red Bulls debut of either Gaudette or Jeremy Vuolo. Or the Sounders can just keep rolling with Jersey-native Bryan Meredith.
Whatever happens, Sunday has the potential to be interesting between the pipes.
