Sebastian Giovinco cantered to the MLS August Player of the Month award, capturing almost 30% of the vote in the five-man race. The player soon to be known as the one who almost single-handedly lifted Toronto FC into its first-ever playoff appearance is having a helluva season. This is Giovinco's second PotM award in a row. Don't be surprised if he is PotM for every month remaining in the season.
Sacha Kljestan was on the August PotM ballot after contributing five assists and two goals toward RBNY's surge up the MLS standings. The team has also taken a big step toward something close to genuine admiration from the league's taste-makers. Kljestan picked up 16.82% of votes cast, which was good for fourth place.
Well done, Sacha. Well done, those who voted for him. And on to September. Here's hoping we see another (or the same) Red Bull among the PotM nominees for the current month of the regular season.
