The New York Red Bulls wrap up a three-game home stand with a game against Chicago Fire: the team to whom the Red Bulls traded former captain and current all-time, all-competitions RBNY appearances leader, Dax McCarty, during the off-season.
That trade will likely be second-guessed until McCarty retires from the game, but there is no getting around the fact that it was a surprisingly abrupt end to the RBNY career of a club legend. This game provides an opportunity for the player and the fans he left behind to bid each other farewell.
It is also, of course, an opportunity for RBNY to get an early-season jump on another Eastern Conference rival. Dax's return will inevitably dominate the build-up to the game. If he's still the main talking point at the final whistle, it will mean things haven't gone the Red Bulls' way.
Off the field, it will unquestionably be Dax's day. The Red Bulls will want to be sure they take over the headlines about the game itself.
