No change in the top six, but the rest of the list is chaos.
1. Chicago Fire (no movement)
- 31 points, 2nd in Eastern Conference
- 2nd in Supporters' Shield race
- Last result: New England 1-2 Chicago
The Fire nabbed top spot in the Rankings last week, and there's no reason to surrender it in Week 16. An away win makes it eight league games unbeaten for Chicago - and gives it another week at the top of this list.
2. Toronto FC (no movement)
- 32 points, 1st in East
- 1st in Shield race
- Last result: TFC 2-0 DCU
Solid home win over the worst team in the league for TFC this week - not as impressive as Chicago's result, but good enough to hold position in the Rankings.
3. New York City FC (no movement)
- 27 points, 3rd in East
- 3rd in Shield race
- Last result: NYCFC 2-1 Seattle
NYCFC just keeps tracking TFC and Chicago in these Rankings and the league standings, waiting for one or both to slip up.
4. LA Galaxy (no movement)
- 19 points, 7th in Western Conference
- 15th in Shield race
- Last result: LA 2-2 Houston
A little lucky to get a last-minute equalizer this week, but the Galaxy is now seven games unbeaten: teams in form make their own luck.
5. Vancouver Whitecaps (no movement)
- 20 points, 5th in West
- 12th in Shield race
- Last result: VWFC 1-1 Dallas
The Caps dropped points at home, but the Rankings can't find a team that quite has a case for breaking into the top five this week, so Vancouver holds its position.
6. Sporting Kansas City (no movement)
- 27 points, 1st in West
- 4th in Shield race
- Last result: San Jose 0-0 SKC
No great argument for the top team in the West to move up or down this week.
7. Colorado Rapids (up nine places)
- 16 points, 10th in West
- 19th in Shield race
- Last result: Colorado 2-1 Portland
The Rapids have the longest active winning streak in MLS at the moment: only three games, but top-10-worthy nonetheless.
8. New England Revolution (down one place)
- 20 points, 8th in East
- 13th in Shield race
- Last results: Revs 1-2 Chicago
The Revs have played the top three teams on this list in their last three games, and only lost once - which is why they're still a top 10 team despite losing at home this week.
9. Montreal Impact (up one place)
- 18 points, 9th in East
- 17th in Shield race
- Last result: OCSC 3-3 IMFC
The Rankings prefer not to see teams rise with a draw, but are forced to concede that L'Impact's current form - four games unbeaten; one loss in the last six league outings - is worth a step up on this list.
10. Seattle Sounders (down one place)
- 19 points, 8th in West
- 16th in Shield race
- Last result: NYCFC 2-1 Seattle
Feels like the Sounders might be over-rated by this ranking, but this is another case of it being difficult to find a worth replacement. Seattle hangs on to a top-10 spot for now.
11. Houston Dynamo (no movement)
- 24 points, 2nd in West
- 6th in Shield race
- Last result: LA 2-2 Houston
The Dynamo got a good result this week, and it could have been better - LA needed a late (and perhaps offside) equalizer to grab a point. But Houston has also only won once in its last six league games.
12. Atlanta United (up one place)
- 21 points, 7th in East
- 11th in Shield race
- Last result: Atlanta 3-1 Columbus
Atlanta's third consecutive home win snapped a two-game losing streak and points the team back in the direction of the Power Rankings' top 10.
13. FC Dallas (down five places)
- 24 points, 4th in West
- 8th in Shield race
- Last result: VWFC 1-1 FCD
A draw on the road is a good result, and not typically one that would yield a substantial drop in the Rankings. But FCD has now won once in its last seven league games, and that is not top-10 power.
14. New York Red Bulls (up five places)
- 23 points, 5th in East
- 9th in the Shield race
- Last result: Philadelphia 0-2 RBNY
First win on the road since March, first clean sheet in league play since April, and the Red Bulls have suddenly flipped from a team that had only won once in six attempts to one that has won two of its last three league games.
15. Orlando City (no movement)
- 25 points, 4th in East
- 5th in Shield race
- Last results: OCSC 3-3 IMFC
Orlando is unbeaten in three games, which is quite good. The team has also only won once in its last nine league matches, which is not good. And it has only won one of its last five home games.
16. Portland Timbers (down two places)
- 24 points, 3rd in West
- 7th in Shield race
- Last result: Colorado 2-1 Portland
After an encouraging two-game home stand that brought back-to-back wins, the Timbers hit the road in Week 16 and stumbled yet again. Portland has lost its last four away games - and it is on the road again in Week 17.
17. Philadelphia Union (down five places)
- 16 points, 10th in East
- 20th in Shield race
- Last result: Philadelphia 0-2 RBNY
Three straight losses now for the plummeting Union.
18. Columbus Crew (down one place)
- 22 points, 6th in East
- 10th in Shield race
- Last result: Atlanta 3-1 Columbus
The Crew has lost four of its last five games and needs the boost of a return to home field - which will come in Week 17.
19. Real Salt Lake (up two places)
- 14 points, 9th in West
- 18th in Shield race
- Last result: RSL 1-0 Minnesota
A short-lived bump up the Rankings, one suspects, for RSL - next up is San Jose in San Jose.
20. San Jose Earthquakes (no movement)
- 20 points, 6th in West
- 14th in Shield race
- Last result: SJ 0-0 SKC
Hard to justify bumping the Quakes up the list after a scoreless draw at home, but they look under-rated by the Rankings at the moment.
21. Minnesota United (down three places)
- 14 points, 11th in West
- 22nd in Shield race
- Last result: RSL 1-0 Minnesota
Minnesota is bottom of the league again.
22. D.C. United (no movement)
- 15 points, 11th in East
- 21st in Shield race
- Last result: TFC 2-0 DCU
Sixth game out of its last seven in which DCU has been held scoreless, and the goal it has scored in that stretch was a PK won by a dive.
