A week before kicking off its 2017 Gold Cup, the US Men's National Team warms up with a friendly run out against Ghana.
Bruce Arena's squad for Gold Cup is mostly players currently thought to be on the fringes of his thinking for World Cup qualification and Russia 2018. Their task over the next month is to advance their respective claims to places on the rosters for higher-priority fixtures this year and next. Arena's task is to find the necessary chemistry within his summer squad for a run at the CONCACAF championship.
Ghana will be expected to provide a solid test for USMNT. The Black Stars' mini-tour of the USA started with a 1-0 loss to Mexico in Houston and concludes with this game in Connecticut. Like the USMNT squad, Ghana has not summoned its strongest group of players for its July schedule; like USMNT, Ghana expects even a B-team to be competitive, and will hope some of the lesser-known members of the squad make a case for more national team minutes in future.
This game is a useful test for both sides, but neither will attach great significance to the result. They each have more significant challenges ahead.
Per livesoccertv.com, here's where to find the game if watching from the USA:
