Add Sal Zizzo to the list of former Red Bulls seeking a new team for 2019: Atlanta United has announced it has declined the option to extend his contract.
Zizzo’s season was curtailed by injury, though he did not appear to be high on Tata Martino’s depth chart when fit. He got six appearances in MLS with ATL in 2018, and only one start.
He was released by RBNY last year, after three seasons as a regular starter, mostly at right back. This season, he enjoyed the curious coincidence of the MLS Cup final four being comprised entirely of teams he had played for:
Still got love for all my old clubs but @ATLUTD is coming for ya Portland,KC, NYRB. Big win tonight!!! #WeReady #ATLUTD

And his latest team won.

Assuming his fitness issues are behind him, the 31-year-old shouldn’t be waiting too long for his next gig. He’s a veteran who has knowledge and experience of playing for some of the more ambitious teams in MLS.
Best of luck in the off-season, Sal.
