Luis Robles, the rock at the back for the New York Red Bulls, has been one of Major League Soccer's best goalkeepers since his arrival at the club in 2012. And the 31-year-old is no stranger to utilizing unconventional methods to improve his game and get a head start on the competition.
It was rumored that the club had flown Robles to Washington ahead of its Sunday night clash with the Sounders in order to get some Pacific Northwest-centric training.
Once a Metro can now confirm that Robles spent the last week working at Seattle's Pike Place Fish Market, filling out orders by throwing and catching fish to and from other employees at the world-famous attraction.
"I thought chucking around three-foot salmon and other fish would not only help my distribution, but it would also acclimate me to the wet and slippery conditions we often find in Seattle," Robles stated. "While I hate that my clothes are dirty and I smell like fish guts, I hope going native will help me to keep a clean sheet."
It has been rumored that a flannel-clad Dax McCarty was spotted panhandling with a guitar in the University District with a sign that reads "Need a Central Attacking Midfielder," although Once a Metro could not confirm by print time.
