It appears that veteran German center back Tim Sebastian will not be joining the New York Red Bulls. The German newspaper BILD has reported that Sebastian, a former Red Bull Leipzig defender, has signed with 2. Bundesliga team SC Paderborn through 2018. RBNY reported to have genuine interest in Sebastian, with the most recent reports stating a deal had been agreed for the player to swap RB Leipzig for New York.

Paderborn needs all of the defensive help it can get as it has conceded 33 goals in 19 matches this season and is currently in 16th place in the German second division. If Paderborn finishes in 16th, it would face the 3rd-place team in the German third division in a two-legged relegation/promotion playoff.

The Red Bulls will likely continue their search for a center back, with several question marks surrounding the team's current quartet of central defenders. Matt Miazga is looking to leave the club, Karl Ouimette will miss games due to international duty, Damien Perrinelle is expected to miss the beginning of the season, and Ronald Zubar is injury prone. Expect the rumor mill to continue to link the Red Bulls to center backs.
