New York Red Bulls final Desert Diamond Cup game will be against New England Revolution

The last game of RBNY's 2017 preseason has been confirmed.

The New York Red Bulls' 2017 preseason is over - the season started against Vancouver Whitecaps on February 22- but also isn't: the team is still in Desert Diamond Cup, which will have its final round on February 25.

The tournament has a triple-header on its last day, headline by the title bout between Houston Dynamo and Colorado Rapids. On the undercard: Sporting Kansas City against New York City FC, and RBNY against New England Revolution.

Revs vs RBNY starts the day at 3:00 pm, Eastern.

The Red Bulls' first team should be at some distance from this game, since they have to play Vancouver Whitecaps in the second leg of their CCL quarterfinal on March 2. And the team has already played the Revs once this preseason: the friendly at the beginning of February saw Alex Muyl suffer an injury from which he is still recovering. One would imagine it would be counter-productive to risk further injury within the MLS squad by flying out first-teamers to Arizona to play the Revs.

So expect RBNY to stick with its "Desert Diamond Cup roster", which is essentially the NYRB II preseason squad. The final game of RBNY's 2017 preseason should be another outing against MLS opposition for the mixed bag of trialists, Academy players, and pros signed to the USL roster that is currently in Arizona.
