The third of the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals to be settled features last season's CCL runners-up, Tigres, and three-time champs (of an older format), Pumas.
More pertinently, it is the match-up that will feed the semifinal that will also feature the winner of the Vancouver Whitecaps-New York Red Bulls quarterfinal. RBNY fans are well advised not to get ahead of themselves: the Red Bulls are not favorites to progress to the CCL semifinals after allowing the Caps to get out of the first leg of the quarterfinals with a 1-1 draw. Vancouver has the tie-breaking away goal and will have home advantage for the second leg.
As it happens, Tigres and Pumas also tied 1-1 in the first leg of their quarterfinal. Pumas holds the Vancouver position: away goal from the first leg, home advantage in the second leg. Tigres must score at least one goal in this game - and have a few other things go their way - to make it out of the quarterfinals.
For an advance look at the team RBNY will play if it makes it through to the CCL semifinals, here's where to watch:
