Marco Rose appointed head coach of Red Bull Salzburg after Oscar Garcia leaves for St. Etienne

Salzburg didn't waste any time naming a replacement for Oscar Garcia - and that replacement is not Jesse Marsch.

Oscar Garcia's exit from RB Salzburg to take the head coach job at St. Etienne was officially confirmed on June 15. Salzburg moved quickly to fill the vacancy, announcing the promotion of youth team coach Marco Rose to run the first team.

Rose coached Salzburg's U-19s to the 2016-17 UEFA Youth League title. He has reportedly signed a two-year contract as first-team head coach - a detail New York Red Bulls fans may want to note just in case the rumor of Jesse Marsch moving to Austria pops up again.

The Rose appointment should settle the rumor mill's speculation about Marsch's future for the foreseeable future. Though the RBNY head coach is working toward the certification required to coach a top club in Europe, and the new man in Salzburg does have some big shoes to fill. Garcia won back-to-back Austrian league and Cup doubles in his time with RB Salzburg. And Rose will be aware that the last internal appointment to the top job in Salzburg - Peter Zeidler - was dismissed less than six months after he was handed the first-team head coaching job.

Still, rumor mill take note: Salzburg has a new head coach and it is not Jesse Marsch.
