Sky Blue FC rookie goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan has been named to the Canadian Women’s National team roster for a pair of upcoming friendlies against Costa Rica. The matches will be played during the international break, and the teams are set to take the field on June 8 in Winnipeg, followed by a second match on June 11.

Sheridan, the 23rd overall pick in the 2017 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft for SBFC, has been instrumental in front of the net throughout her rookie season. She currently leads the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) with 33 saves through Week 8, with Canadian teammate Stephanie Labbé right behind her with 31.

Sheridan has earned a call-up multiple times in 2017, and has been capped three times in her young career with the senior national team. Sheridan earned the start for Canada against Russia at the Algarve Cup earlier this year, and helped the team secure a 2-1 win on their way to a second place tournament finish. Her most recent international start came against the reigning Olympic champion German WNT. Sheridan allowed one goal in 45 minutes of play.

The Canadian roster combines 15 professional players (NWSL-11, Bundesliga-2, Division 1 Féminine -2), two collegiate players (NCAA), and two Canadian youth club players. Sixteen members of the roster are from the 2016 Olympic Bronze Medal winning team, while three (Sinclair, Schmidt, Scott) are two-time Olympic Bronze Medalists.
