Report: Darlington Nagbe (and the rest) back in training with Atlanta United

Word out of Atlanta is the squad is as ready as it can be for Sunday’s opening leg of the 2018 MLS Eastern Conference Final.

Atlanta United returned to training from Thanksgiving with a near-full squad. Reporting for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday, November 23, Doug Roberson advised that long-term casualties Mikey Ambrose and Romario Williams were ATL’s “only two players not available”.

Some of the returning players may be more available than others. Sal Zizzo has been out since he had knee surgery in August; Brandon Vazquez hasn’t featured in a match-day squad for Atlanta since he came off the bench the last time his team played the New York Red Bulls; Chris McCann has been sidelined since he had to limp out of Atlanta’s regular-season finale in Toronto at the end of October: these might not be players at the peak of form and fitness.

But Jeff Larentowicz and Darlington Nagbe were merely nursing knocks sustained in Atlanta’s Eastern Conference semifinal series with NYCFC. Their return to training on Friday might reasonably be expected to signal match-day readiness come Sunday.
