New York Red Bulls vs. New England Revolution: Live Match Thread

The New York Red Bulls will look to heap further embarrassment upon their fans tonight as they take on the listless New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium. New England haven't won in five games, but the Red Bulls are clearly a superior side as they've gone six games without a victory.

Thierry Henry will not have the pleasure of playing on turf for the second time this season, as he has a convenient "inflammation in his left Achilles." Right. Mehdi Ballouchy starts again, and the brilliant Agudelo-Richards combination up top will let Bobby Shuttleworth enjoy a quiet night, sipping lemonade in a deckchair. As we all should, instead of watching this game.

Lineups

Red Bulls: Bouna Coundoul; Roy Miller, Tim Ream, Rafael Márquez, Chris Albright; Joel Lindpere, Teemu Tainio, Mehdi Ballouchy, Dax McCarty; Juan Agudelo, Dane Richards

Bench: Alex Horwath, John Rooney, Stephen Keel, Carlos Mendes, Corey Hertzog, Stephane Auvray

Revolution: Bobby Shuttleworth; Darrius Barnes, A.J. Soares, Ryan Cochrane, Kevin Alston; Kenny Mansally, Benny Feilhaber, Shalrie Joseph, Zak Boggs; Rajko Lekic, Milton Caraglio

Bench: Tim Murray, Diego Fagundez, Zack Schilawski, Otto Loewy, Stephen McCarthy, Ryan Guy, Pat Phelan

You can find Revs perspective at The Bent Musket, and be sure to check out our match preview before the game.

Kickoff for this humilation is at 7:30, and you can watch the inevitably self-harm-inducing performance on MSG.

Also, 10 awesome points to the first person who identifies the gentleman in the photograph above.

On the other hand, we wouldn't be anywhere near the playoffs without Henry

and perhaps they’re concerned that he might injure himself and be out for the season if he does play on turf. It annoys me, but I think it makes sense from that perspective.

1-0 New England

We can’t defend. Another shocker.

2-0 HT.

Meh. The team doesn’t care, so I won’t either.

wow

absolute fucking travesty! its bad enough that the team is shitting the bed, but for the AR to make a call like that?

I dont believe in curses, but WTF!?

the red card I could see

I mean, it could be just a yellow, I guess, but to take away the penalty too? That decision can make all the difference in the game.

the first half

I didn’t see the first goal but on the second goal, Caraglio was Ballouchy’s mark. He wasn’t even close to keeping up. I know I’m beating a dead horse at this point, especially on this blog, Ballouchy is a liability every time he steps on the field. He can’t defend, trap, pass, carry a ball, shoot or do anything worth paying him money as a player. Just make him the ball-boy or have him mix up the gatorade powder drinks for the players who can actually do something productive.

Also, that was a red card all day. Earlier in the first half one of the revs put his studs up near Agudelo’s face and body checked him to win the ball; no call. Marquez wins a header cleanly, and it’s a call. Another dead horse here, but officiating in the MLS is atrocious. I attend USL games all the time with better refereeing. How in any way the linesman makes that call is beyond me. In the aftermath of the foul, the referee looked like he was going to call the penalty before conferring with the AR.

God awful officiating, but that’s no excuse for creating nothing offensively. Rafa Marquez had our best chance of the half.
Second highest payroll in the league after Galaxy now? In May we had a combined wages 4 times that of the Revolution. This is disgraceful.

he pointed to the spot

and reached in his pocket, but then he went over and let the AR overrule him. He made up for it with a no-call against Ream.

I watched this game on Comcast Sportsnet NE, since I cant get MSG on my cable, and it was funny to see Nicol’s reaction to the 2nd yellow for mansally. I dont know how he had a word to say when he should have been down a man, a goalkeeper, and a sub at the end of the first half.

This referee is fantastically shit.

Should have had two penalties.

yeah

who knows if Henry might have made the difference in this game? Thank God for Richards at least.

The Playoffs are slipping away and I get the sinking feeling we are going to see D-Ro doing his stupid dance in the postseason while Henry and company are golfing. (do Frenchman even golf anyway?)

That

was on the tip of my tongue. I was just checking the spelling.
